Livestock Feed Formulation Development

Livestock feed formulation development

Genetic improvements in livestock have forced feed manufacturers to produce higher-quality feeds to accommodate the higher nutritional requirements of improved breeds. The recent emergence of feed additives such as enzymes has also contributed to this process. Improved feed utilization can also reduce environmental pollution and is therefore important for the development of feed formulations for livestock.

Feeds for animal breeding are diverse and usually consist of one or more basic ingredients that make up the bulk of the feed and are supplemented with minerals, vitamins, and other dietary supplements. Precise feed formulation is intended to provide desired results in terms of animal health and/or output at the point of consumption. Lifeasible aims to provide customers with livestock feed development solutions that are less costly to raise, highly digestible, and easily absorbed.

Straw bio-pellet feed development

Straw feeds are widely available, diverse, abundant, and inexpensive, and contain more than half of the energy accumulated by plant photosynthetic crops. As a non-competitive feed resource, we develop it rationally to improve its intake of digestible energy. We offer a solution for the development of straw bio-pellet feed to meet the nutritional requirements for the growth of livestock such as pigs, cattle, and sheep, and to improve the survival rate, growth rate, or/and milk production.

Development of reed resources for feed

Reed resources can not only be fed as high-quality green hay to cattle, sheep, and other herbivorous animals, making livestock grow at a better rate and fit. It can also be used as silage to maintain the nutritional value of the reed and to improve its palatability. This will help you to improve your economic efficiency and save on other feed costs.

A linear programming optimization model for feed formulation

Our experienced professionals with expertise in animal nutrition can reasonably set the right constraint values for the number of various ingredients used in feed formulations. We can obtain feed formulations with certain use values in a shorter period and faster than manual calculations.

  • Determination of decision variables. The ratio of each ingredient is to be decided in the feed formulation.
  • Determine the objective function. The decision variables are expressed in mathematical formulas, which can be specified as greater than, less than, or equal to a certain value. For example, feed price problems, etc., are generally set to a minimum.
  • Determine the constraints. The decision variables are limited to a space of variation. For example, give a limit to the proportion of feed ingredients in the feed formulation, or limit the range of nutrients that the feed formulation will ultimately provide to the animal.
  • Solve the system of planning equations. Obtain the optimal solution of the objective function.

In vitro method for assessing the nutritional value of ruminant livestock feeds

  • In vitro gas production method. This method not only provides a more realistic simulation of the digestibility of organic matter in the rumen, an estimate of the amount of degradable protein per unit of feed and the ME value of individual feeds or feed mixes, but also provides information on the presence or absence of tannins in a particular forage, including shrubs, and their degree of antinutritional resistance, based on the addition of PEG.
  • Enzymatic method. Does not require animals as experimental donors and can be performed in large batches.
  • Near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy method. We can estimate the composition of the same type of forage sample by using the established multiple regression equation. It has the advantage of fast testing and no weighing.

Lifeasible offers livestock feed development solutions that are nutritionally comprehensive, promote feeding, regulate the digestive system, improve blood circulation in livestock, increase disease resistance, and improve growth rates.
