Lactobacillus Selection and Development

Lactobacillus is the generic name for a group of gram-positive bacteria that produce large amounts of lactic acid from fermentable carbohydrates. They are widely found in the intestinal tract of humans, animals, and poultry. Lactobacillus has health functions for livestock. Such as the regulation of gastrointestinal flora, enhancing the absorption of nutrients, improving the absorption of minerals, and promoting the body's immune system.

Lactobacillus Selection and Development

Lifeasible can select and breed new Lactobacillus strains or improve existing lactic acid bacteria strains through genetic modification and other bioengineering techniques. The result is a Lactobacillus strain with multiple genetic advantages for host growth and development, digestion and absorption, immunity and health, and greater benefits for the feed industry.

Selection and breeding service of Lactobacillus strains without drug-resistance genes

We can control the application of strains carrying resistance factors through bioengineering breeding, and we can select and breed Lactobacillus strains without resistance genes, or remove the resistance plasmids contained in strains already used in production.

Selection and breeding service of Lactobacillus strains with a high yield of flavor substance

In addition to drug-free Lactobacillus strains, we can also select Lactobacillus strains with high production of flavor substances (such as lactic acid, acetaldehyde, butanedione, etc.) for our customers.

  • We can select Lactobacillus strains that produce a lot of mucopolysaccharides (important for the flavor and hardness of the product) substances. We can clone the corresponding genes into Lactobacillus strains for feed and fertilizer production.
  • We transferred the cholesterol oxidase gene into Lactobacillus to reduce the cholesterol content in fermentation products.
  • We can improve the oxygen tolerance activity of Lactobacillus by changing the regulatory gene of the superoxide dismutase gene.
  • The extracellular polysaccharide of bacteria can improve the colonization ability of bacteria, improve the adhesion in the intestine, and prolong the survival time of the bacteria in the intestine. Therefore, we introduced genes with high extracellular polysaccharide production and good performance into Lactobacillus and fermented them to produce extracellular polysaccharides. Lactobacillus can also be made directly into a live bacterial preparation to colonize the intestine of livestock and produce the desired gene product directly in the organism.
  • We cloned the structural gene of bacteriocin into the strains of Lactobacillus used for feed and fertilizer production so that strains that do not produce bacteriocin can acquire the ability to produce bacteriocin.

Our technical approach

Methods Details
Conjugative action We can build superior Lactobacillus by transposons and plasmids, and we can build superior strains by crossing over to DNA recombination.
Protoplast fusion technology It has the advantages of high hybridization frequency, not being affected by kinship, more types of recombinants, a large amount of genetic information transfer, more complete transfer of genetic material, and can obtain recombinants with excellent traits.
Electroporation method Electro-transformation can be performed between strains of different genera.
Gene delivery system We have experimental vectors and food-grade vectors. Food-grade vectors do not use antibiotic-resistance genes as selective markers.

Lactobacillus are promising microorganisms for the feed and fertilizer industries. Lifeasible has developed a mature and complete system in Lactobacillus bioengineering technology.
