Total Nitrogen Testing in Biofertilizers

Nitrogen (N) is the mineral nutrient with the highest plant demand and is also an important limiting factor for the succession of individual plants and even vegetation ecosystems. N in plants provides important support for photosynthesis in plants and has a highly significant impact on plant growth, yield, and quality. Therefore, the total nitrogen content, as one of the important indicators of biofertilizers, is a parameter that cannot be ignored for its production quality control.

Nitrogen in biofertilizers

The results of quality inspection of biofertilizer products are an important guide to the improvement of product production. Lifeasible provides services for testing the total nitrogen content in biofertilizers. We offer a wide range of methods for the rapid and accurate determination of total nitrogen content in samples, as well as detailed calculations and analysis of the uncertainty of the results to improve the accuracy of the test and to meet your different needs.

Titration after distillation

Simple operation, accurate and reliable data. To improve the accuracy of the test, we have also evaluated the measurement uncertainty of the total nitrogen content in biofertilizers by post-distillation titration. This allows us to identify the sources of uncertainty and the degree of influence, and to take appropriate measures to reduce the influence of each factor on the test to reduce the dispersion of the measurement results and improve the accuracy of the results.

Detection steps

Total Nitrogen Testing in Biofertilizers

Kjeldahl method of nitrogen determination

We use the whole process of intelligent program control, which has the characteristics of fast detection speed and less reagent consumption. And the gas seal of the testing device is good, which reduces human error and makes the data accurate and reliable, and is suitable for the testing of large quantities of samples.

Detection steps

  • The fertilizer sample is digested under the action of a catalyst and the organic nitrogen contained in the fertilizer is decomposed into inorganic nitrogen and combined with sulfate ions to form ammonium sulfate.
  • The ammonium sulfate ions are fixed in an alkaline environment by the secondary control of the automatic Kjeldahl nitrogen tester.
  • The fixed ammonia ions continue to evaporate in an alkaline environment until they are depleted and ammonia is produced.
  • The free ammonia is fixed by the action of boric acid and finally titrated to the endpoint by the continuous action of the standard acid.
  • The amount of ammonia in the sample, i.e. the total nitrogen content of the biofertilizer, is obtained from the amount of acid consumed.
